With 170,000 documents, EconStor is one of the largest providers of Open Access publications for Economics and Business Studies. EconStor is one of the largest repositories worldwide and an important input service for RePEc. More than 500 universities, research institutions, professional associations and publishers now use it for the digital dissemination of their publications in Open Access.

EconStor is especially well established in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, where the majority of economic research institutions use the service. But more than 70 per cent of accesses to the service originate from outside these countries, thus proving the global reach of EconStor. Among its customers are renowned institutions such as the Stockholm School of Economics, Yale University, the German Economic Association (VfS) or the Economics research instutes within the Leibniz Association.

Olaf Siegert, product manager of EconStor, explains: “We notice that more and more institutions contact us in order to disseminate their publications in Open Access through EconStor. The fact that we are a publicly-funded institution without commercial interests works in our favour, as it means we meet the ideal of a digital information infrastructure in the context of Open Science.”

This is confirmed by Professor Jutta Allmendinger, president of the Berlin Social Science Center (WZB): “For more than 10 years now, our close cooperation with the ZBW has been characterised by Open Access. With EconStor, the ZBW ensures that our (and others’) research findings are findable and freely accessible, and provides an invaluable service for science and society.”
